Nanning : China reached the final of the Sudirman Cup by defeating Thailand 3-0. China fielded it’s best squad against Thailand featuring highest ranked players/pairs in all the five disciplines. China didn’t even allow their opponents to win a game against them.
The tie began with Mixed Doubles featuring World No.1 duo of Zheng Siwei /Huang Yaqiong and World No. 4 Dechapol/Sapsiree . In the head to head record China lead 6-1 but recently lost to the Thai pair 24-22,21-19 in Singapore Open. The Chinese duo with the crowd support in their favour began the first game with high confidence.
The first game went neck to neck with the Chinese pair getting better of their opponents in the end to win the first game 21-18. It was one way traffic in the second game with China winning it convincingly 21-7. The score board was 1-0 up in favour of China, then came the much anticipated match between World No. 2 Men’s Singles player Shi Yuqi and upcoming Thai player Kantaphon Wangchareon.
Shi received a little resistance in the first game but finally managed to win it by 21-15. In the second game also Shi Yuqi was leading till the very end of the game when Wangchareon step up to give a tough run to the World No. 1. After saving few game points, Shi managed to convert his game point on 26-24 and extended the lead to 2-0.
The third match of the tie was Men’s doubles in which the World Champion pair of Li/Liu were the clear favourite against Kitinupong/Tinn Isriyanet. The Chinese rose up to the Occasion and helped China reach finals of the Sudirman Cup by 3-0. China will next face the winner of the match between Japan and Indonesia to clinch it’s 11th title.
