The Badminton Asia Team Championships concluded this Sunday with a nail biting encounter between the defending Champions Japan and China. Japan was seeded no.1 and China was seeded second in the tournament.
The summit clash started with mixed doubles between Higashino/Watanabe of Japan and He Jiting/Du Yue of China. The Japanese were the favorites for the match, but the Chinese came on top to win the match and first point for China 21-17,21-17.
Then the second match was men’s singles between Kanta Tsuneyama of Japan and Lu Guangzhou of China. Lu started the match very strongly and was leading 17-13 in the first game, but then Tsuneyama bounced back with grit and took the game by 21-18. The second game was
The third match of the tie was men’s doubles between Hoki/ Kobayashi of Japan and Han/ Zhou of China. The match seemed to be going on the Chinese side till the mid break of the second game. But, from there the Japanese pair dominated and increase the lead by 2-1.
Fourth match of the tie was women’s singles and the Chinese youngster Han Yue just 19 year old was under tremendous pressure in a must win match against Sayaka Takahashi. The first game went to Sayaka 21-17, but Han Yue somehow managed to win 19-21 in the second game and pull the decider. Han won the third game 17-21 and managed to level the tie at 2-2.
The tie went to the last match which was women’s doubles. Japan has the strongest women’s doubles line up in the world, but the pair Sakuramoto/Takahata could not get the better of Li/Du. China won the women’s doubles by 21-16,21-19 and Claimed the Tong Yun Kai Cup 2019.
